South African Air Force MSDS 2026 Intake – Military Skills Development

What is the MSDS Program?
The Military Skills Development System (MSDS) is a two-year contract through the South African Air Force. The first year focuses on intensive military and functional training, while the second year gives recruits the chance to apply their training by being deployed where needed. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and enhance your skill set in a structured environment.

To be eligible for the MSDS program, you must meet the following criteria:
- South African Citizen: No dual citizenship.
- Age:
- 18–22 years (for Grade 12 applicants).
- 18–26 years (for applicants with a tertiary qualification or N6) when reporting.
- Grade 12 Completed: Must have completed Grade 12.
- A minimum Admission Point Score (APS) of 17, excluding Life Orientation (LO), is required.
- No Criminal Record: Must not have a criminal record or any pending criminal cases.
- Medical Fitness: Must fulfill the appointment’s medical fitness requirements.
- No Visible Tattoos: Tattoos on the legs, lower arms, neck, or face are not allowed.
Available Careers in the South African Air Force
The MSDS program offers several Support Careers within the South African Air Force. You can apply for the following roles, each with its own specific requirements:
- Communications Operator: Must have Grade 12 with Mathematics (Level 4) or Maths Literacy (Level 5).
- Fire Fighter: Must have Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science (Level 3).
- Human Resources Clerk: Must have Grade 12.
- Hospitality Services: Must have Grade 12.
- Material Support Clerk (Admin, Supply): Must have Grade 12.
- Military Legal Practitioner: Must have Grade 12 and an LLB/Bachelor of Law degree.
- Protection Services: Must have Grade 12.
- Material Support Clerk (Technical): Must have Grade 12 and Mathematics (essential).
- Flight Operations Management: Must have Grade 12 with Mathematics (Level 4) or Maths Literacy (Level 5).
- Military Intelligence: Must have Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science, and Geography (Level 3).
- Military Police: Must have Grade 12.
